Ali: Beyond The World’s Stage
Opening reception Oct. 4

The Courier Journal cordially invites you to the opening of a new exhibit that highlights the personal life of Louisville’s own Muhammad Ali.

“Ali: Beyond The World’s Stage,” is part of the 2019 Louisville Photo Biennial, a weeks-long, citywide photo exhibit that spans museums, galleries, university and cultural institutions. The Courier Journal exhibit at Art Sanctuary, 1433 S. Shelby St., is a look at the personal life of “The Greatest” through the eyes of the Courier Journal photographers who went beyond the ring to document the Champ’s life most of the world never saw.

The opening event will be held from 6-9 p.m. on Oct. 4. In addition to the exhibit, which features rarely seen images, professional boxing ring announcer and artist Chris Byrdwell will be on site to create an original piece of artwork combining a Courier Journal photo with the medium of wood.

He will then switch roles and auction off his new creation at 8 p.m., with proceeds from the auction being donated to the Muhammad Ali Center, 144 N. 6th St.

Also in attendance will be the 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019 Indiana Golden Gloves Champion Demontaze “Juicy” Duncan from Louisville Select Boxing. With a record of 68-5, and too many championships to mention, he is currently setting the boxing world on fire and drawing comparisons to a young Muhammad Ali. Demontaze will be signing autographs and available for photo opportunities at the event.

The free event will also feature a cash bar and snacks. If you have questions, contact:
