INWARD LANDSCAPES: at Pyro Gallery with Shawn Marshall

PYRO Gallery presents:

a solo painting exhibit – featuring artist

Shawn Marshall

Republic Bank First Friday Gallery Hop – this Friday,  April 7th  6-9pm

Marshall will be presenting new paintings and has invited sculptor Jeanne Dueber as a guest artist.
Show Dates:  February 23 – April 8

The Louisville Visual Arts’ online publication Artebella described Shawn Marshall’s work as “a vivid and intriguing balance of abstract and representational, with a beautifully judged tension between an embrace of the highly developed impasto and the underlying landscape that lies beyond.”

Marshall’s work is bold, colorful, full of texture and contrasted shadows that give a three-dimensional quality to the canvases. For her, painting is a meditative practice; an outlet to release intuitive energy and let go of preconceived notions and self-imposed rules or judgments of how she and her work interpret and portray the world. Marshall’s expression and “practice” are restorative for her, and often for others, as she creates what she refers to as “inward landscapes.”

Marshall was nominated for a 2016 Award in the Arts, granted by the Fund for the Arts. Most recently, she had work selected for the 27th Annual International Juried Show, at the Viridian Artist Gallery, New York, NY in June of 2016. The exhibit was juried by Tumelo Mosaka, Independent Curator, former Curator at Krannert Art Museum and the Brooklyn Museum. She has exhibited individually and collectively in Arizona, Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky, New York and Ohio. She also has work in various corporate collections including PNC Bank Tower in Pittsburgh, University of Kentucky, and others.

This coming Fall, Marshall’s work will be exhibited in a contemporary landscape invitational at Bellarmine University’s McGrath Gallery.

Marshall holds a Master of Architecture and Bachelor of Architecture from Cornell University and the University of Kentucky, respectively. The influence of this discipline manifests itself in her paintings, mixed media, and her sculptural work and she has been a member of Enid, Generations of Women Sculptors, since 2003. After working 20 years in the field of architecture, she went back to school to become a teacher. She received a Master of Arts in Teaching in 2009 and is currently a Visual Arts teacher at North Oldham High School.. For more information about her and her work visit

Jeanne Dueber is a 4’10’ sculptor who is proof that women can make huge, heavy works that are animated with motion and feeling and that the ability to work BIG isn’t owned by men. She carves and splices many pieces of wood together to create large, expressive abstractions. She also works in many other media.  Dueber has work in 15 corporate collections and over 440 works in private collections in 28 states. She was the subject of a TV documentary by KET, and has won grants from Fulbright-Hayes and the KFW. Dueber is also a member of Enid, Generations of Women Sculptors.

Shawn Marshall will be donating 10% of her sales to the Family Scholar House. As a teacher, this organization is personally meaningful to her as its mission is to help “empower families and youth to succeed in education and achieve life-long self-sufficiency.”
