THE LIMBO GRAND OPENING
Louisville’s First Tiki Bar in 20 Years Opens Downtown
The World’s First Bourbon Tiki Bar, the Limbo, Opens in Louisville, Kentucky
The Limbo tiki bar is having their grand opening weekend Friday, February 3rd, and Saturday February 4th, from 4pm to 2 am. Tucked behind Crafts Gallery on Chestnut St., right in the middle of the bustling South 4th district of downtown where 8 Up, the Mercury Ballroom, the Limbo is a tropical oasis where you can cast away your troubles.
Friday’s entertainment will start at 9:30 pm, and feature hawaiian swing by the Bluegrass Shack Boys, fronted by singer and ukulele musician Rick Quisol, as well as burlesque acts later in the evening by Ethel Loveless and Lola Dee Licious.
Saturday’s entertainment will include a band (TBD), and a bathing suit fashion show by local hot designer Laura Patterson of Cannonball Swimwear.
All of the Limbo’s signature cocktails are made with both rum and bourbon, and range from classics like Mai Tais and Blue Hawaiians, to more unusual favorites like 3 Dots and a Dash and Painkillers.
The Limbo has a private party room called “The Luau Room” in homage to the first tiki bar in Louisville in 1959 at the airport. It’s a perfect place to have birthday parties, bachelor/bachelorette parties, work parties, even late afternoon work meetings.
By derby the Limbo will have a fully built out patio as well as a chef that will focus on bar bites that will be Japanese, Korean, and Hawaiian inspired, think poke bowls, crab sliders, Asian tacos.
The Limbo is owned by Olivia Griffin, owner of hat and apparel store on 4th street called The Mysterious Rack. She is originally from San Francisco, and spent her 20’s traipsing around Bay Area tiki bars.
